Volunteers play a critical role in the success of C.S. Lewis Academy.  The school’s ability to offer many activities inside and outside of the classroom depends on volunteer help. While CSLA does not require volunteer hours, each family is strongly encouraged to get involved whenever possible.

There is a significant gap between the “real cost” of educating each student at C.S. Lewis Academy, and the funding available through tuition income. That gap is closed with fundraising and other development efforts. However, that gap is also reduced by the amount of volunteer assistance received. The services provided by volunteers always enhance our programs, and frequently reduce our overhead!

We also have a Facebook group page for volunteers that can be found here!

NOTE: All volunteer requests will be processed weekly on Thursdays through October.  After that time they will be processed the first week of each month. PLEASE PLAN AHEAD!

TO GET STARTED

BACKGROUND CHECK

  • Initially, then every 5 years we require all staff, faculty and volunteers to have a background check.  To start this process as a volunteer, please email "volunteer@cslewisacademy.com" and request to become a volunteer.  After that, you'll be prompted every 5 years to renew.  The clearance form will come from our safety partner, Ministry Safe from this address: C.S. Lewis Academy automation@instascreen.net

DRIVERS

  • Some of our events will be managed outside of CSLA staff.  In these cases, parents will manage transportation themselves and no clearance is needed.

  • However, the following policy holds when a CSLA staff/faculty member (or designated individual) does coordinate transportation ,or when CSLA vehicles are used.

    1.     All drivers driving anyone other than their child must be a CLEARED DRIVER (which requires being a CLEARED VOLUNTEER first)
    2.     We will use the Transportation answers you gave on the mandatory school forms to determine whether a child can ride with a cleared driver, of if parents only will take care of transportation for that individual child.
    3.     Trips will have a Transportation Coordinator. While this could be a teacher or coach, generally it’s a volunteer who puts the transportation plan together with assistance from Kim Eubanks (regarding who is cleared to drive).

NOTE: Obviously a parent can always drive their own child to an event.  They just need to be cleared to drive OTHER students.  We also ask you please be in good contact with the coordinator of that trip so they can plan properly.  We would need WRITTEN permission PRIOR to the event for a non-cleared driver to transport another student.  This is best done by emailing the trip leader (Teacher or Coach).

To become a cleared driver, you need to fill out the form linked below.   That form gives us insurance information, etc., as well as notes the general rules for being a cleared driver.  Our policy, per our insurance company, is that cleared drivers have no accidents or moving violations on their record for the past 3 years.  In the case of DUIs or other major violations, it is 5 years.  We will entertain an appeal of a single violation during that 3-year period.  The appeal process is available on the form.
